Yoga saved my life.

The roots of Yoga originated in the Indian cradle. For many decades Yoga has also been very popular in the Western culture despite being anything but the strange poses of contortionist models on Instagram. But for today I will not go into holistic Yoga philosophy.

Today I want to share with you the story of why yoga saved my life. I can only tell you that it is a love story.

- Amazing! I'll make myself comfortable waiting for spicy scoops -

Feeling wrong - episode many of many

1. As a young girl, I am diligent perhaps a little introverted. I listen more than I talk and the teachers don’t appreciate it.

2. As a young girl I am overweight. Those muffin top doesn't help me feel accepted. "But you have a pretty face," they say.

3. Anxiety takes part in my life: university exams, messages that do not come from the guy you liked, job interviews, costume fitting. ANXIETY.

Feeling bad - episode 1 of 1

I see darkness. Everything happened too quickly. Can’t see the future years but I feel in a deep black hole.

Feeling good - episode 1 of infinities

This is my first yoga class.

While I close my eyes sitting in an apparently comfortable position for everyone except for me, the teacher, with a very pure sweetness, tells me to thank me. Thank me for being there at that moment to take the time for me, for my body. To make it healthier and stronger. To create energy.

She tells me to acknowledge the fact that today I may not be able to do something. But maybe tomorrow I will be.

She tells me to send the breath to the farthest corners of my body, feel the ribs distancing and everything relaxes. And I begin to close my eyes and communicate with my body for the first time.

And for the first time, I THANK myself without appearing a weird self-centred girl, but feeling understood despite my half-done exercises.

- If you are telling me to become a yogi guru, I can’t make it. I hate stretching and I am flexible as a trunk ... -

No, I'm not saying yoga is a must to do. And yoga is far from being only stretching.

I found universal concepts that I had inside and I decided to make my own. The beauty is that I can apply them in every action I do, even when shopping at the supermarket or riding a bicycle.

I resonated in the concepts of mindfulness and attentiveness. While I am writing these words, my mind may start wandering thinking about what to eat tonight or start to get scared of the important business meeting the next day. He seems to be focused on what I am doing but in reality, I am paying very little attention to my task. I am working but I am not present. Instead, I want to focus, let go of all the extra distracting thoughts and fully dedicate myself to my business. There is a right time to think about everything.

Another teaching which I love about Yoga is the lifetime journey. The possibility to reach today something that was not attainable yesterday. Every day you can make that little extra achievement with practice, training, perseverance and patience. When you go from the desire for something to action, that is Yoga. And everything becomes possible.

- If you are telling me to become a guru yogi, I disagree. Then I hate stretching and I am not flexible at all... -

Another teaching that I love from Yoga is to change, to reach today something that was not attainable yesterday. Every day you can make that little extra achievement with practice, training, perseverance and patience. When you go from the desire for something to action, that is Yoga. And everything becomes possible.

(Ps: many more concepts will be explained in other posts).

I'm starting to feel less wrong. Even if I don't get to touch my toes, it doesn't matter. We are all different. I am on my path that will make me become the best version of myself every day. I can practice what I want to improve on.

And for the first time, I feel it. I feel my mind accept my body.

Yoga saved my life because it helped me recognize all my potential. Yoga taught me to love myself. Love me as I am in this moment, here and now.
